Exhibition at Omicum Gallery - "KURSI KOOLKOND XXXVI"

From 30 May, a new exhibition "KURSI KOOLKOND XXXVI" is on display in the Omicum atrium, showcasing the works of the Kursi school's artists.

Kursi Koolkond was founded on 28.04.1988 as the oldest active art group in Estonia. The four founding members were (in alphabetical order): Peeter Allik, Albert Gulk, Ilmar Kruusamäe and Priit Pangsepp. In later years Marko Mäetamm, Rein Tüür, Imat Suumann, Külli Suitso and Priit Pajos joined the school. The name of the school district Kursi comes from the former parish of Kursi (in 1988 the term "district" was still used in the administrative division), and the ancestors of the three founding members were connected to this land. At the same time, in the context of 1988, the name "Kursi" also had the estonian meaning of showing direction and course, of being a role model at that pivotal time.

The Kursi School District exhibition at the Omicum Gallery is the 94th joint exhibition of the school's CV. Current exhibition includes drawings by Albert Gulg, oil paintings by Ilmar Kruusamäe, oil paintings by Külli Suitso, oil paintings by Ilmar Suumann, acrylic paintings by Rein Tüür, oil paintings by Priit Pajos and drawings by the artists' teacher Andrus Kasemaa. Peeter Allik (1966-2019) is commemorated with a watercolour painting.

Kursi School's previous major exhibitions have been at the Tallinn Art Hall (1994 and 2003), Tartu Art Museum (1998), Tartu Artists' House (1990, 1993, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2018, 2023), Estonian National Museum (2023), Viinistu Art Museum (2022), etc.

Over the border there have been prominent exhibitions in Finland (Helsinki 1996 and Tampere 1994), Korea (Seoul 1996), Italy (Venice 2007), the United States (New York 2010), Latvia (Riga 2012, 2013-2014), etc.

The exhibition is open until 2 August at Riia 23b/2, Tartu.
